I'm an Aussie and loved reading this! Especially city life and your fits, juggling parenthood in those earlier days (we have a 10yo now and that time is just a blur). Love to know what bags you're lugging around if you could share, sometimes at a loss what works in winter (albeit our winters are very mild comparatively!)

Time is a blur!!!

It kind of depends on how much stuff I have to lug around. If it’s a heavy load day I use the Bags in Progress Carry All Beach Bag (giant, with lots of pockets, and washable, but not very sexy). If I don’t have much to carry around, I actually tend to use a Gap Suede Hobo Bag (looks a little nicer, but less pockets and actually a small opening which is a little annoying, but also very affordable)

They are the sun and we are the earth orbiting around them! 🤣❤️ This post was so damn relatable! Other than time alone in the mornings…both kiddos sleep with us, so sneaking out of the bed early without waking them up is tantamount to Neo dodging bullets in the Matrix. I am definitely not as smooth as Neo.

You’re really making the case for waking up at 5:30am! Right now I’m doing 6:30, baby wakes up at 7, husband is on duty until about 7:30 and then we switch, but I still feel frazzled. I love a slow morning and I haven’t had one of those in a year and a half 😅 I know it would make a world of difference. This was fun to read! Makes me want to intentionally observe a week in our life.

Haha I LOVE my slow mornings and waking up early has really helped me to feel like I have some time to MYSELF. In the summer, I like to take that time to go on long walks or runs too, which helps even more! But, I’m a natural morning person, which makes it easier!! I always do recommend to carve out those little moments when you can though, and once you start waking earlier you’ll never go back!! haha

okay that zara coat is testing my resolve to not buy any new—as in not used—clothes this year and it’s only january 😅 i also have a 3 month old and aspire to this type of workout schedule and general balance one day!

Jennifer Cook's avatar

I bought it on a whim because I didn’t want to shell out a ton for a new coat and I wear it just about every day. It’s not the BEST quality in the world, but I think it still looks nice and is just so easy to match with everything.

You’re in the THICK of it right now and it definitely gets easier!! Balance and schedules come with time, and then they change, and then it gets easier again. It’s all up and down and for me, it made a difference when I stopped putting pressure on myself to work out like I did pre baby or try to get a HARD workout in every time. Sometimes it’s just 10 minutes of sun salutations while the baby eats breakfast and that has to be enough!!

You’re doing great!

This is the kind of content I’m here for!! Loved it. Ok, but can we talk about Severance? I’m living in the sub-Reddit obsessed with all the theories and deep dives. I know what you are referencing in episode one, and how can I say this without a spoiler warning… I think the theory is right! That’s probably vague enough. I watched this whole video on the elevator sounds and it all points to yes on the theory. We’ll see!

WAIT right?? I can’t get enough. We’ve watched the 1st ep 3 times now to dissect EVERY LITTLE THING and I honestly I could go either way after that third viewing!! I am obsessed with all the fam theories though and that show is just SO good.

It’s SO good, I’ve been rewatching season one while I do my little step machine at home, which I usually do in 20 min intervals but I’m like, this show is so good, I’ll just keep working out 😂 win win? I watched season one ages ago so I am catching a lot of things I either never caught or forgot about. Eeeeeee it’s so genius. The actor who plays the sister deserves an Emmy for ep 1 IMO. “Persephone” (also read a whole Reddit theory on why he jokingly said THAT name) 😂😂

Hahaha wait talk to me about this step machine.

Also I love the Persephone name drop.

The step machine is $50, I’ve had it for three years, it fits under my bed, and it’s the best way for me to sneak in workouts from home. 10/10 recommend! https://a.co/d/7sLz2VU

I absolutely *loved* reading this!!! Thanks for sharing a glimpse into your days. My daughter normally wakes up at 7am (goes to sleep at 7pm, too) but will randomly wake up around 530 some mornings for reasons unknown. If you discover that a later bedtime eradicates that, do tell! Also...can we talk about chez ma tante? I still DREAM of their pancakes. NYT cooking has their recipe but I'm worried I won't be able to recreate it as perfectly as they do there. Okay, mouth officially watering now so I'll see myself out. (More of these, please!)

Jennifer Cook's avatar

Aw thank you!! We’re normally 7-7 as well but these 5:30 days have me a little crazy. So far, no solutions over here.

YES those pancakes. So good. I also haven’t attempted the NYT recipe but it’s very tempting. Even getting them half as good would be fine, I think?

You are so good at waking up and going to bed early!!!! I admire your discipline so much.

I don't know if it helps to hear this, but every routine/structure you are building now will only get easier as your kid gets older. This will all pay off!!!

Jennifer Cook's avatar

It helps!! I NEED structure in my life, which obviously having a baby kind of upends. Good to know that things get easier...haha.
