Welcome back after a long weekend. Hope yours was filled with sunshine, beaches, hot dogs, and many beers.
As we get into September, an excellent month, I did a little reflection on the things that I loved, did, and found in August, another excellent month. summer is not exactly my favorite, and this past August felt supremely busy and chaotic, but with all that chaos it also brought a lot of joy, a lot of friends and family, and not a lot of sleep. for some reason, it always ends up being worth it.
London Grammar (specifically, Lord it’s a Feeling, which I’ve had on repeat literally all month)
These green velvet curtains for our living room. We recently moved into a carriage house with strong 70’s vibes, so we leaned in and got these green velvet curtains to block off our lofted bedroom when need be and they are everything I had envisioned.
Casetta. I discovered this LES wine bar while needing a place to get work done during a trade show and it truly adorable, plus they let me use the wifi and my laptop and have great wine.
Saying goodbye to Saturday classes. I’ve been teaching yoga Saturday mornings for close to a year now, and as sad as I am to give them up, I have been even more sad to miss Saturday mornings with my family. This past Saturday marked my last one, and it’s bittersweet to walk away from something you love in favor of something that you know you need.
This Printworks photo album that looks like a coffee table book. I have resolved to manage our photos better and in a way that encourages us to actually look at them on occasion, rather than taking 86 rapid fire shots of the same thing to be stored in the cloud forever, rarely to be seen again. I like this album because it blends in with what we already have laying on our table, but I do think Printworks could use a little guidance in making these even more coffee table friendly with a less obvious graphic design and a wider range of cover options.
Glasses of Grüner. I used to say that I hate white wine and then we went to Puglia this spring and now I love white wine and if there’s a Grüner on the menu, I can’t resist it.
Gertrude’s, a lovely bistro in Prospect Heights with one of the best burger’s I’ve ever had.
Brownstone Botanical flowers form the Fort Greene Farmer’s Market.
1.2 mile runs home from the yoga studio every Tuesday so I can give Lou a kiss before she leaves for the day. Running has always been something I’ve simultaneously loved and hated and since baby, it’s been really hard for me to get back into it (not only because I can’t run without peeing my pants a tiny bit these days and wtf is that and when will it stop?). But now, Tuesday mornings I teach a class in Park Slope and if I run home I get to see the baby for a quick second before she goes off to the nanny for the day and that’s really all the motivation I need to get back into it. (DM me for a free class, if you’re in the NYC area!)
The Creek Bar in Mountain Dale. If you find yourself Upstate, it’s worth checking out.
Birthday celebrations. Both my daughter and I have birthdays at the end of August just a couple of days from one another and it’s so special to fill the week with celebrations and dinners and gifts and friends and family and love.
Hot New York Summer ride from Karyn Nez on the SoulCycle at home bike. I am an absolute sucker for a millennial club bop in my spin classes and Karyn’s playlists do not ever disappoint. The Hot New York Summer one is my current favorite, but you really can’t go wrong with a Karyn class. No matter how much of a struggle it is to get on that bike, by the end of one of her classes I am feeling stronger and better and so happy I did. (She also teaches IRL in NYC which I’m not confident enough for, but I would still recommend checking out).
Midday strolls through Soho.
Cheap tank tops from Gap Factory. I recently walked in to a Gap Factory store in Brooklyn looking for onesies for Lou and stumbled upon these great tanks for super cheap. They fit well, can get beat up (there’s not a day that goes by in which I’m not covered in some sort of baby food), and are thin enough to layer but thick enough to wear alone.
Baby ragers in the park. Nothing like a good stroller fest on a Saturday to remind you that you aren’t alone in this journey and that you moved back to the right place.
The mozzarella sandwich from Olive’s.
Happy hour glasses of wine during the work day (because sometimes you just need a quick break).
xx,
jen
Not normally a white wine gal, but I will give your suggestion a try if I can find it! :)
